NSGEU Stands With LGBTQ+ Community in Wake of Orlando Shooting

Good afternoon,

We were deeply saddened when we woke to news on Sunday morning that dozens of innocent people had been killed or injured in a shooting in Orlando.

We pride ourselves on our union’s diversity and we have worked hard to build an inclusive community that is accepting of everyone, no matter their race, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. We were shocked and horrified to learn of this act of senseless violence inflicted upon the LGBTQ+ community. As we struggle to come to grips with this terrible loss, we ask NSGEU members to stand together in solidarity and love. We have flown our Pride flag at half-mast all week as a sign of respect to the victims of the shooting and the members of our local LGBTQ+ community, and will stand shoulder-to-shoulder during the annual Pride celebrations in Halifax and Sydney this summer.

Remember, love is greater than fear.

In solidarity,

Jason MacLean

President, NSGEU
