Committees of the Board

As well as the Councils you can run for a position in the committee pool. Following each triennial convention, at your Local triennial meeting, you can run for a position in the pool. Members of the Committees of the Board are selected from this pool. The number your local gets to elect is based on formulas in the Constitution.

Committees of the Board include representatives from each of the eight regions, a Board of Directors member, and a Provincial Executive Committee liaison. Committees fall under the direction and mandate of the Board of Directors and follow approved terms of reference.

If you are interested in joining one of these committees, you must first be elected by your local to the NSGEU Committee Pool. These elections are held at the end of the month following the NSGEU Triennial Convention (so the next Committee Pool elections will be held in June of 2019). To be elected, you must be a member in good standing and have attended at least 40 per cent of your local meetings in the 12 months preceding the election.

After the locals have elected members to the Committee Pool, the NSGEU Provincial Executive Committee assigns Committee Pool members to the various committees, ensuring that each committee is regionally diverse. The Board of Directors must then ratify the assignments.
