NSGEU Provincial Executive Committee
The Provincial Executive Committee is made up of five members elected by voting delegates during Triennial Convention. Positions are: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer.
Under the direction and guidance of the Board of Directors, the Provincial Executive Committee oversees the union’s day-to-day operations, following the strategies and priorities decided upon by the delegates at Triennial Convention.
Any voting delegate to Triennial Convention is entitled to seek nomination for any of the Provincial Executive Committee positions.
The Provincial Executive Committee elected during the NSGEU Convention 2016 is:
Jason is a member of Local 480C, a Correctional Officer at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility. He grew up in the Whitney Pier neighborhood of Sydney, Nova Scotia. He has served the union in a number of roles through his years of activism including serving as a Steward, JOHSC member, Local VP, Facilitator, Picket Captain, Regional Councilor, Bargaining Representative, Board Member, 3rd VP, and 1st VP. The President is the only full-time elected officer of the union and is its chief executive officer.
Darren is a Community Care Worker with the Department of Community Services (Local 8). Darren is now in his seventh term as Secretary-Treasurer.
1st Vice President
Sandra works as a licensing officer with the Department of Community Services and is a member of Local 16 where she has served as both as President for numerous terms and Vice President. She has most recently served as 3rd and 2nd Vice-President during the past years and was a representative of the PR members of the Civil Service on the Board of Directors for the past five years.
2nd Vice President
Kim is a member of both Locals 423 and 119 has worked full-time at the IWK Health Centre for the past 19 years as an Administrative Assistant and part-time at the Veterans Memorial Hospital as a Utility Worker in the Food & Nutrition Department for the past 5 years. She has a 10 year history of activism with the union, including four terms as a member of the NSGEU Board of Directors representing Trade Union Occupational Council Administrative Professionals.
