NSGEU Amateur Sports and Fine Arts Awards

The Social Recreation Committee would like to advise that they are now accepting applications for the NSGEU Amateur Sports and Fine Arts Awards.

Each year, the NSGEU Social/Recreation Committee may issue up to 15 Amateur Sports Awards (of which up to three may be Fine Arts Awards) of $300 each to members, or children of members, who are amateur athletes or artists. These awards help defray the costs of participation in or training for sports or art. The deadline is March 31 of each year.  Please visit the NSGEU Website for details.

What do you consider “fine arts”??

WHen there are 15 awards, why are only 3 designated for fine arts?

    • Deedee Slye January 24, 2017 at 11:36 am #

The number of awards are determined by the Board of Directors and the Education Committee. In the past “Fine Arts” has included, dance, drama, art, music (singing and/or instruments), figure skating, amateur film making. It is a wide designation. Please let us know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps.

Tammy Young, Chair of the Social Recreation Committee sends her correction: Thank you Tammy!

The Fine Arts and Sports awards are not determined by the Education Committee, but BOD and the Social Recreation Committee.

Also in the ad it says that up to three awards have to be Fine Arts, but that is not how the policy reads. Policy 2.10 states “A minimum of three of these awards shall be awarded to the “fine arts”. So it isn’t that there are only 3 designated, but that a minimum of three will be designated, based on successful applications.

Is this award ok for a 2017 sporting event or is it for 2016?

    • Deedee Slye January 25, 2017 at 12:15 pm #

The Award would cover the expenses from the past 12 months. It is for the year prior. But they would also consider the expenses up to the date of application in 2017.
You could list the expenses from Jan. – Dec. 2016 and then separately list expenses from Jan. 2017 to the date of application. Thank you for your question!

Are riding lessons and clubs considered for this?

    • Deedee Slye January 25, 2017 at 12:04 pm #

Yes! I believe you would refer to the sport as Equestrian.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.
