On April 28, we gather with fellow workers, friends and family members to remember our brothers and sisters killed or injured on the job, and to re-commit to making our workplaces safer for everyone. In 2013, 34 workers lost their lives. Ceremonies will be held to commemorate the Day of Mourning on April 28 around the province:
Halifax – The NS Federation of Labour will host a ceremony at 11 am at Province House in Halifax on the grounds by the plaque that was erected in 2002 beside the maple tree, also planted in 2002. If the weather is bad, the ceremony will be held inside. After the speakers, you are invited to lay a wreath on behalf of your organization, family member or friend. The South Shore Labour Council is having a ceremony from 1 – 2 pm at Shipyard’s Landing on King St in Bridgewater. There will be wreath-laying. For more information, contact Labour Council President Lisa Mason @ 902.527.7567 or email@example.com. Refreshments will be served afterward.
The Cape Breton District Labour Council will be holding a ceremony at 11:00am at the Whitney Pier Legion (Branch 125), 850 Victoria Road, Sydney. There will be a bouquet laying. The Strait Area District Labour Council is hosting a ceremony at 7 pm at the Unifor (formerly CEP Union Hall) in Port Hawkesbury (next to Dairy Queen) on 323 Reeves St. Refreshments to follow.
