Call to Action: Join the Rally on Monday, September 29th

On Monday, the Liberal government is planning to introduce legislation that will dictate union representation for all health care workers. This government has rejected a fair and reasonable proposal that was developed by all four unions. Instead, government will legislate all health care workers into bargaining units that will be represented by a union of the government/mediator’s choosing.

Union representation is a fundamental human right. Even if the government refuses to work with the unions cooperatively, at the very least, workers affected by this restructuring should have the right to decide which union will represent them in the future.

This legislation will drive health care and public sector workers out of Nova Scotia at a time when we’re facing shortages in many areas.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Please take a moment and send a message to your MLA, the Minister of Health, and Premier

2. Join us for a rally at the Legislature in Halifax on Monday! We will start gathering at 4 p.m., but the event will go late into the evening.Bring your friends, family, co-workers and neighbours and meet us down there: this is a fight for democracy! If you’re worried about parking downtown, we will begin bussing people from the NSGEU office (255 John Savage Avenue, Burnside) starting at 3:30 p.m. and going late into the night.

For those in or near Sydney, Cape Breton, the Cape Breton Labour Council is organising a rally at the Provincial Building in Sydney for 4pm today, Monday, September 29. Please come out and show up!
