Your bargaining committee and employer reached an impasse in bargaining on April 12th. The union plans to file for conciliation today, April 15th.
While we have reached agreement on some articles, we still have several significant issues that have not been addressed, such as improvements in pay provisions, holidays, vacation, group insurance, pension, retirement allowance and wages.
The employer has actually proposed a reduction in your sick time as well as a lower pay scale for probationary employees. There are also other concessions that the employer has refused to take off the table, which would affect employees’ rights in regards to probation and job posting.
Your bargaining committee is not prepared to agree to these concessions and is fully committed to achieving a fair collective agreement for all members of Local 66. But, in order to achieve this goal, we need your support.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement. We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your Bargaining Committee can recommend to you.
