How Your Local Works

Your Local

The Power of Your Local

A local is a group of workers who have been certified by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Workplace Development to bargain collectively with their employer. A local can include workers from the same geographical area, or workers who share similar work responsibilities.

Locals are the foundation of the NSGEU’s strength: members working together to improve their specific working conditions, and to ensure the employer is living up to the collective agreement.

Like locals in most other Canadian unions, NSGEU locals are designed to ensure every member has the opportunity to be heard and to contribute to any of the decisions the local makes.

See the Directory of Locals for a listing of all locals.  If you’re not sure which local you’re in, contact us at 424-4063, 1-877-556-7438 or inquiry@nsgeu.ca
