Dec 6 Day of Remembrance

December 6 is Canada’s National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women.

The NSGEU remembers Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault and Annie Turcotte.

These 14 young women lost their lives to violence, and 13 others were injured in what is known as the 1989 Montreal Massacre. This tragic event is now symbolic of the fight to end violence against women. In 1991, Canada’s Parliament declared December 6th a National Day of Mourning and the National Day to End Violence Against Women.

Today we remember all those tragically taken and commit to continuing the fight to end all violence against women.
