Local 18 A&B – CBU (MOS & Teachers) – Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP) – Pension Transfer Vote

During this most recent round of collective bargaining the parties entered into a Letter of Understanding with respect to the feasibility of transitioning from the current CBU Pension Plan to the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).

The Union will conduct a separate vote of the current unionized CBU Pension Plan participants in both the MOS & Teachers bargaining units.

An information/vote session has been scheduled as follows:

MOS:

• Date: Wednesday, Feb. 24th, 2016
• Time: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
• Place: Cape Breton University – Room CE 265

Teachers:

• Date: Wednesday, Feb. 24th, 2016
• Time: 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
• Place: Cape Breton University – Room CE 265

NSGEU Pension and Benefits Officer, Corinne Carey, will be at the vote on Wednesday to answer any questions or concerns you may have. The Union will have satisfied its mandate if a majority of those members who cast a ballot are in favor of the transfer to the PSSP. In addition to the above, a decision to transition to the PSSP will still require the approval of the Board of Governors of Cape Breton University and the PSSP Board of Trustees.

In the event that the Board of Governors of Cape Breton University approves the transition to the PSSP, and in the event that the members of NSGEU, Local 18 MOS & Teachers provide a mandate to make such a transition, the Parties agree that effective the day of transition to the PSSP, Article 28.00 – Service Awards will continue to apply only to those employed on a permanent basis prior to the date of transition the PSSP.

In addition to the above, the Parties acknowledge that a decision to transition to the PSSP will require modification to the terms of the collective agreement, and shall meet to review any required adjustments to contract language.

Please make every effort to attend the session scheduled for your particular bargaining unit as the vote will help determine future participation in the chosen plan.
