Show your support for our fight to Repeal Bill 148
On August 22, 2017, Stephen McNeil enacted Bill 148, Public Services Sustainability Act. This heavy-handed piece of legislation affects most of you (93 percent of the membership) in two ways:
- It imposes a non negotiated wage settlement
- It also unilaterally removes longstanding articles from your collective agreement.
We believe the Bill is unconstitutional as it contravenes s. 2(d) (Freedom of Association) of the Charter of Rights and we are continuing to demand the repeal of the Bill or at the very least, that McNeil send the entire Bill for review at the Court of Appeal and not just part of it.
This coming Thursday, September 21, members of the NSGEU will be joining other unions in a rally at the legislature from 12 noon – 3 p.m. to collectively voice our opposition to Stephen McNeil’s bullying tactics and demand he repeal the Bill.
If you are unable to attend but wish to show your support, PLEASE CLICK HERE and add your name to the protest.
Even it you can’t be there with us, rest assured President MacLean will let the Premier and your MLA know that what they are doing is wrong and they need to respect our rights and stop interfering in the free collective bargaining process.
Thank you for your attention today and we hope to see you at the Rally on Thursday or hear from you in support. For more information on Bill 148 click here.
