Local 27 – Evergreen Home for Special Care Bargaining Proposals Exchanged

Dear member,

A copy of the bargaining proposals, which your bargaining committee presented to the employer at the first day of bargaining on Wednesday, September 25^th, was emailed to local members and is available by request to local members by contacting the Resource Centre (902-424-4062 or 877-558-7438). Your bargaining committee is advocating that these proposals be adopted to improve your collective agreement. It is important to remember that these proposals are not changes to the collective agreement – they are the foundation for collective bargaining, but we have not agreed to the exact wording set out in the proposals.

Since the exchange of bargaining proposals on Wednesday, September 25th, we met with your employer for two more days of bargaining on September 26th and October 21st. Talks have been cordial and we have made headway on our proposals. However, we do have some significant issues which remain outstanding, and so we have applied for conciliation.

A Conciliation Officer has been appointed by the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education. His name is Rick Rose, and he will meet with your bargaining committee and the employer on Monday, December 9^th. He is a neutral third party who will try to persuade both sides to come to an agreement. Your bargaining committee is hopeful that a tentative agreement can be reached at conciliation that can be recommended for acceptance by Local 27.
