Local 49 – Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division Filing for Conciliation

Your bargaining committee met with your employer on February 21^st and 22^nd for negotiations of your collective agreement. Additional dates were scheduled for a third day of bargaining on May 1^st and on June 7^th, with the employer cancelling both dates. While talks were productive and agreement has been reached on some articles, we have significant proposals that remain outstanding. Therefore, the union has filed for conciliation and will share those dates with you once they are scheduled.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.
