Local 32 – Home Support, Yarmouth – Union files for conciliation
Negotiations for a new collective agreement were held on June 13th and October 29th at the law office of Cliff Hood, negotiator for the employer, in Yarmouth. The talks were courteous and productive with respect to non-monetary issues. However, little progress was made on the key monetary issues facing the bargaining unit.
At the conclusion of bargaining on Tuesday, October 29th, the union notified the employer that we would be filing for conciliation in an effort to reach an acceptable offer to present to our members. We will advise the membership when dates are set for conciliation talks.
What is conciliation? Conciliation is a process under the Trade Union Act where one or both parties can make an application after reaching an impasse at the table. Conciliation officers work for the Department of Labour and Workforce Development and they bring the parties together to try to resolve their differences and agree on a collective agreement.
