The Liberal government has launched an unprecedented attack against workers in Nova Scotia, introducing essential services legislation for our home support workers just a few weeks ago. Now, they are getting ready to table similar legislation for the Registered Nurses of Local 97.
This is unacceptable.
Stephen McNeil’s government campaigned on the promise of supporting free, full and fair collective bargaining. Instead, they’re targeting labour, taking away health care workers’ right to meaningful bargaining and an effective strike.
When the McNeil government legislated essential services and put home support workers back to work, the message to all health care workers was clear: you’re next.
The only way to stop this Liberal government from bringing their heavy handed approach to other health care workers is to let them know how workers feel about their interference in bargaining.
We can send that message by standing together. Right now the Liberals have nurses in their sights. They’ve refused to bargain on the issues of patient safety that nurses brought to the table, they’ve made threats about disciplinary action and they’re continuing to meddle in collective bargaining.
The tone is being set for this government’s approach to collective bargaining. This is a fight that matters for health care workers, for patients, and for all public sector workers in Nova Scotia. Please stand with NSGEU nurses and home support workers this Saturday and help send the message that health care workers won’t be silenced by McNeil!
