Local 97 — CDHA Nurses, Strike Tomorrow!

Thanks to the advocacy of nurses, healthcare workers and labour supporters, we have successfully delayed the passage of Bill 37, the oppressive essential services legislation that has been introduced by the Liberal government. This means that we are going on a legal strike tomorrow at 7 a.m.!

The employer has agreed to the emergency services plan. You need to contact your nurse manager to find out if you have been designated to work under the emergency services plan.

If you are not designated to work under the emergency services plan, we request that you join us on the picket lines.

The Union will hold picket lines at the legislature, the Halifax Infirmary, Summer Street entrance, and the VG, University Avenue entrance. We will meet at the Delta Halifax at 1990 Barrington Street around 7 a.m. beforehand.
If you are just getting off shift at 7 a.m., we will have picket lines set up at the hospital sites by 7 a.m. You are welcome to join us immediately, or proceed to the meeting at the Delta. If you need to get some rest, you can join us around 2 p.m. Please check in with a picket captain, who will be wearing a red shirt, when you arrive.

If you are designated as on-call, please join the picket line outside of your workplace.

It is very important that you continue to check for updates on Facebook, our website and your email, because this is where we will post information.

Due to the impending passage of Bill 37, this will be the last strike that will allow nurses to be out in force. Please participate; don’t be silenced by McNeil!

During the strike, if your unit is understaffed, please speak with your manager, who will then contact HR so this issue can be brought to the union’s attention. If you feel your unit is overstaffed, or if there are discrepancies, please contact the NSGEU at 424-4063.
