MEDIA RELEASE – NSGEU Pleased CBRP Officer Reinstated
September 25, 2014
Halifax – The Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU) and the Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP) with the assistance of legal counsel were able to conclude a mediated resolution that includes the reinstatement of a member of the CBRP who was suffering from PTSD and was fired on July 3, 2014. The decision was issued as a Consent Order.
“The NSGEU is pleased that the member is returning to work, and that both parties have undertaken to make good faith efforts to have him accommodated doing meaningful work for the CBRPS,” says Joan Jessome, President of the NSGEU.
We are also pleased that the Consent Order includes an agreement that both parties will participate in a workshop on accommodation Policy and the accommodation of post-traumatic stress disorder.
NSGEU represents 193 members of the Cape Breton Regional Police.
