Health Administrative Professionals Bargaining Update: Strike Vote Achieved!
Earlier this morning, the Council of Unions collected and counted your province-wide strike votes. The result of the count was overwhelming: 81.5% of ballots cast were in favor of strike action. A large thank you to the membership for coming forward to stand behind your bargaining team.
At this time, the Council of Unions is in negotiations with the employers regarding Essential Services for the bargaining unit. The next meeting is scheduled for mid-July. When we have an agreed-upon Essential Service plan, either by negotiating with the employers or filing with the Nova Scotia Labor Board as per the Essential and Community Services Act, the bargaining team will then request the conciliation officer file his report, moving us closer to a legal strike position.
This does not mean we are on strike, but simply that we will be in a legal strike position once essential service staffing levels have been established, and legal strike notice has been served.
As of today’s update, there has not been a request from the employer to go back to the bargaining table. Please stay tuned to your email and respective union websites, Facebook pages, or site bulletin boards for future updates.
Once again, thank you to all members who came out to vote, had your voice heard, and showed your support to the bargaining team. You are all the voice of the union!
