Local 29 – VON Canada Nova Scotia Branch Bargaining Update: Filing for Conciliation

Dear members,

Your bargaining committee met with your employer on Thursday, October 3rd to resume negotiations.  Dates were previously held on Monday, March 11th and Tuesday, March 12th.  While talks were productive and agreements have been reached on some articles, we have significant proposals that remain outstanding.  The union will be filing for conciliation and will communicate dates once scheduled.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement. We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your Bargaining Committee can recommend to you.

If you have any questions about the bargaining process or the steps to come, please contact a member of your bargaining committee or the NSGEU by calling 902-424-4063 (toll-free 1-877-556-7438) or emailing inquiry@nsgeu.ca.
