Local 38 – Northwood Homecare Inc (Office Employees & Schedulers) Bargaining Update: Strike Vote Results

Dear members,

The results of your strike vote are in and members have voted overwhelmingly in support of their bargaining committee and in favour of a strike.

One hundred per cent (100%) of those who voted, voted to strike.

This strong strike mandate will give the bargaining committee strength as they move into the next phase of negotiations – Conciliation.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

Your bargaining committee thanks you for your solidarity and support as they continue to work to negotiate a fair agreement with the employer. We will keep you updated as the process unfolds.
