Local 41 – Northwoodcare Bedford Inc. Conciliation Update

Your bargaining committee met with the employer and a Conciliation Officer on Tuesday, October 18 to try to reach an agreement. Previous to this, negotiations took place on: November 9, 2021; November 24, 2021; January 19, 2022; April 28, 2022; and July 27, 2022.

Despite not yet being able to achieve agreement on the remaining outstanding items, your bargaining committee believes there is still an opportunity to reach one that could be recommended to you.

As a result, we have agreed to schedule a second (2md) conciliation date for Monday, November 7th, 2022. The Conciliation Officer assigned by the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education is Peter Lloyd.

Your bargaining committee is committed to reaching a tentative agreement that we can recommend to you.

What is Conciliation?

Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

Your bargaining committee would like to thank you for your solidarity and support as we make our way through the bargaining process. Please watch your email for an update following conciliation.
