Local 44 – Nova Scotia Business Inc. Bargaining Update: Final Offer Rejected
This is to let you know that the bargaining unit has voted to reject the employer’s final offer. As a result, the union will now be applying for conciliation.
What is conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate the parties and help then reach an agreement.
At the conclusion of conciliation, the collective bargaining process will require your local to take a vote and will be asking you to support the recommendation of your Bargaining Committee.
If you have any questions or concerns about the bargaining process or next steps, please contact a member of your bargaining committee.
