Local 84 – Cape Breton County Homemakers Strike Vote Results

Members of your bargaining unit have voted strongly in favour of taking strike action to back your bargaining demands with 98 per cent of those who voted, voted to authorize a strike.

As we prepare to go into conciliation, your bargaining committee would like to thank you for the overwhelming support you have shown.

What is conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

Once again, thank you to all members who came out to vote, had your voice heard, and showed your support to the bargaining team. You are all the voice of the union!
