Triennial Meeting

Time: 6:00 p.m.
Place: Westside Community Centre, Lavinia Street, New Glasgow

Please mark your calendar to attend your NSGEU Local 2 Triennial Meeting!

On May 14, delegates from all sectors represented by NSGEU, from one end of the province to the other, acclaimed a new president and elected a new executive. It was an exciting convention, with a number of resolutions passed that will move our union in some new directions this coming term and beyond.

Now, it is time for members of Local 2 to come together to elect your leadership that will work with the new executive to carry out the mandate set at convention. I am hoping that many of you will see your union’s new leadership as a catalyst to become more aware and engaged, and hopefully, willing and interested in becoming active at your local level…..and beyond.

At this meeting, we will be electing a new local executive: President, Vice President, Chief Steward, Secretary and Treasurer will all need to be chosen. As well, Regional Councillors and alternates, and committee pool members will be elected. Some members of your current executive will be stepping down, and it is hoped that some of you will step forward to fill these positions; if you have any questions about any position, please don’t hesitate to contact me at tammygillis@eastlink.ca or by phone/text at 902-759-7530. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have! Even if you are not interested in running for positions, I still encourage you to come out and help select your local executive officers and representatives for Regional Council and Committee Pool. We must fill these positions before the end of June in order for our members to be eligible to be placed on committees, and/or to run for seats at the Board of Directors, so we will need a quorum to hold valid elections.

This will be the last meeting before the summer break, and because we recognize everyone’s desire to enjoy our long-awaited summer evenings, we will start our meeting at 6PM, and will provide dinner for all attending. Please RSVP your attendance, or regrets, to one of the following, and include any dietary concerns we should be aware of when ordering:

Tammy Gillis, President:          tammygillis@eastlink.ca

Susan Breen, Vice President:   susan.breen@novascotia.ca

Anne Munroe, Secretary:         anne.munroe@novascotia.ca

And if you are working and unable to make it to the meeting, but would like to offer for a position, please contact one of the above, with a brief written submission identifying the position(s) of interest and a summary of your qualifications and/or reason why you would like to fill the role(s) identified.

In Solidarity,

Tammy Gillis
