General Meeting to elect Executive & Bargaining Committee representatives

Date: Sunday, November 29, 2015
Time: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Place: NSGEU Office, 255 John Savage Avenue, Dartmouth

You are invited to a very important meeting being held at our main office in Dartmouth on Sunday, November 29th from 1 to 3 p.m.Good afternoon,

The purpose of this meeting is to elect representatives to vacant Local Executive positions, elect your Bargaining Committee, establish a structure that works for your local, and discuss issues within your local. NSGEU President Joan Jessome and your Employee Relations Officer, Odette MacLeod, will both be in attendance.

Your local has approximately 220 members working in seven units spread throughout the province: Sydney, Pictou, Amherst, Truro, Yarmouth, the Valley and Halifax. For this reason, it is very important that members of your local have an opportunity to meet face-to-face and decide a structure that makes sense, based on the composition of the local.

As per NSGEU financial policies, the union covers travel and child/eldercare costs associated with attending local meetings. Depending on the distance you are traveling to attend a meeting, and the hours of the meeting, the union may also provide accommodation, as well. Time off work to attend local meetings is not covered by the union. If you are interested in attending but want to find out more about what expenses are covered by the union, please contact Rhonda Duhme (rduhme@nsgeu.ca).

We recently held a telephone town hall call with your local to plan this upcoming local meeting, but were informed some members received the wrong invitation message. Since some members may have missed the opportunity to ask questions, we will be holding another telephone town hall meeting on Monday, November 23rd at 7 p.m. Please make every effort to participate.

We hope to see you at your upcoming local meeting on Sunday, November 29th!
