Local 22 – IWK Health Care, Conciliation Talks Break Off

After two days of conciliation, talks aimed at achieving a new collective agreement have broken off. While the talks were successful in dealing with major monetary issues, we were not able to reach agreement on important job security provisions of the collective agreement. The employer’s final offer falls short of what was achieved by employees of Capital District Health Authority where members with eight years seniority enjoy protection against layoff. The IWK refuses to move from the current provision of nine years.

Your Bargaining Committee is very disappointed that we were unable to reach an agreement and are very concerned by the message sent by the employer not agreeing to the same level of job security that was agreed to by the CDHA. For this reason we will be conducting a vote among the membership asking them to reject the employers final offer and to authorize the Union to strike to back our demand for the same consideration given our members as that received by those employed at CDHA.

We will be conducting a town hall call to provide you with greater detail on how and when this vote will be conducted in the very near future.

Your bargaining committee thanks you for your continued support during these talks.
