Local 267–Nova Scotia Community College Bargaining Update: Union Files for Conciliation

Dear member,

Your Bargaining Committee has just completed its ninth day of negotiations today, June 4, 2021. Previous negotiations took place on April 20, May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 27, 28.

While the Union was able to reach agreement on some of our proposals with the Employer, we were unable to achieve agreement on our most important priorities

Your Bargaining Committee has declared an impasse and applied for the help of conciliation services through the Department of Labour and Advanced Education.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

Your Bargaining Committee will be meeting next week to plan for next steps. Please stay tuned for further updates on the bargaining process as we work towards achieving a tentative agreement in this round of negotiations.

Your support and solidarity is appreciated through the bargaining process.

You will hear from us soon.
