Local 29 – VON Nova Scotia Branch Bargaining Update: Conciliation Scheduled

Your bargaining committee met with your employer on the following dates: October 5th, 2021, October 6th, 2021, November 22nd, 2021, February 28th, 2022 and on March 1st, 2022.

Since that time, we have agreed that we have reached an impasse with the employer and the union filed for conciliation on August 21st, 2022.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your bargaining committee can recommend to you.

We are pleased to announce that the Conciliation and Mediation Officer assigned to assist with negotiations is Peter Lloyd. Conciliation is now scheduled for October 27th, 2022.

It is also important to note that there is a vacancy on the bargaining committee. Elections will be held to fill this vacancy at the September 15th Local 29 meeting that will be held virtually. An email invite will be sent to Local 29 members closer to the date for this meeting. Please make every effort to participate in this meeting so you can ensure this vacancy on the committee is filled!
