Local 34- Northwood Filing for Concilitation

Dear Local 34 members,

Your bargaining committee and employer reached an impasse in bargaining on Friday, February 15th. The union plans to file for conciliation today, Tuesday, February 19th.

While we have reached agreement on some articles, we still have several significant proposals that have not been agreed upon, such as hours of work, travel and wages.

Your bargaining committee is fully committed to achieving a fair collective agreement for all members of Local 34. But, in order to achieve this goal, we need your support.

Please stay tuned for further information on how members of your local can help your bargaining committee reach a tentative agreement they can confidently recommend to you!

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement. We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your Bargaining Committee can recommend to you.

If you have any questions, please contact a member of your Bargaining Committee, or the NSGEU at 424-4063 (toll free 1-877-556- 7438), or e-mail us at inquiry@nsgeu.ca
