Local 38 – Northwood Homecare Inc (Office Employees & Schedulers) Conciliation Update

Your bargaining committee held Conciliation on Monday, September 26th. We also met previously on Thursday, June 9th and Wednesday, July 20th. We have been able to achieve some success with regards to the remaining outstanding items, and believe that there is still an opportunity to work to reaching a tentative agreement that your bargaining committee could recommend for your acceptance. As a result, we have agreed to schedule a fourth Conciliation date for Tuesday, November 1st. The Conciliation Officer assigned by the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education is Rick Rose.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

The union has also received the employer’s Essential Services Plan and it is being reviewed.

Your bargaining committee appreciates your patience and support throughout this process.
