Local 57-Laing House Countdown to Strike!

Good morning,

After two days of conciliation, the employer presented its final offer to the Local 57 (Laing House) bargaining committee. The bargaining committee presented the final offer to the members of Local 57 without making a recommendation of acceptance or rejection. Members reviewed the final offer and conducted their vote between Friday April 28th and Friday, May 12th, voting to either accept the employer’s final offer or reject the offer and give authorization to conduct a strike.

Strike Vote Results

Members voted strongly in favour of a strike to back their bargaining committee’s demands after the conclusion of conciliation.

Eighty per cent of the membership voted, and 100 per cent of the members who cast ballots indicated they require fairness to reach a collective agreement. The union has requested the conciliator file his report. Once he has provided notice that the report has been filed, Local 57 will begin a 14-day strike countdown.
