Local 57 Laing House – Union Files for First Contract Arbitration

Your bargaining committee filed for First Contract Arbitration on Monday, July 15, 2013.

As discussed at your last local meeting, your committee has been open to and has attempted other avenues to settle this collective agreement. Unfortunately, these attempts have been unsuccessful. We are now in the position of filing for First Contract Arbitration.

What is First Contract Arbitration? Either side (the union or employer) has the right to apply to the Labour Board of Nova Scotia for an imposed settlement in cases where a first collective agreement is not achieved after a period of one year.

Thank you for continuing to support your bargaining committee, which is working hard on your behalf to achieve a fair first collective agreement.

If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please don’t hesitate to contact your bargaining committee or the NSGEU at 424-4063 (1-877-556-7438 toll-free) or inquiry@nsgeu.ca
