Local 65A/B – Union Filing for Conciliation

Talks between your bargaining committee and employer reached an impasse on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013.

The union will be filing for conciliation and will be holding a strike vote to back your demands for a fair agreement that recognizes the valuable work you do for your residents.

What is conciliation? Conciliation is a process under the Trade Union Act where one or both parties can make an application after reaching an impasse at the table. Conciliation officers work for the Department of Labour and Workforce Development and they bring the parties together to try to resolve their differences and agree on a collective agreement.

Without a strong strike mandate, your bargaining committee will not be able to achieve a collective agreement that we can recommend to you for acceptance.

Currently the employer has proposed language that the union considers to be concessions. These concessions will be explained to you at the upcoming information session and vote.

After the date and location of the vote has been confirmed, another update will be sent out.

Your bargaining committee remains committed to achieving the best collective agreement possible for all Local 65 members, and will keep you informed of any developments.
