Local 79 SMU – Tentative Agreement Reached

NSGEU Local 79, Support Staff at Saint Mary’s University, Reach Tentative Agreement

Halifax – Members of NSGEU Local 79, support staff at Saint Mary’s University, have reached a tentative agreement.

“We are very pleased to have achieved this tentative agreement,” says Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union. “The members of Local 79 stood firmly behind their Bargaining Committee and with this solidarity they were able to achieve an agreement they could recommend to the membership.”

Highlights of the agreement include a three year agreement beginning July 1, 2012 with wage increases of year one: 1.75 percent, year two: 1.5 percent, and year three: 2.0 percent.

Information sessions and a ratification vote will be held next Monday and Tuesday with a vote count at 5pm on Tuesday.

There are 178 members in the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical, and library services for Saint Mary’s University.
