Local 97 – CDHA Nurses – Conciliation Dates Set
The union was notified this morning that three dates have been set for conciliation with Jarrod Baboushkin, the conciliator appointed to our contract negotiations.
The conciliation dates are Monday, March 17th, Tuesday, March 18th and Tuesday, March 25th. It is our hope that your employer will finally agree to discuss the key issues of scheduling, patient safety and mandated minimum nurse to patient ratios.
What is conciliation? Conciliation is a process under the Trade Union Act where one or both parties can make an application after reaching an impasse at the table. Conciliation officers work for the Department of Labour and Workforce Development and they bring the parties together to try to resolve their differences and agree on a collective agreement.
We are currently conducting a strike vote leading up to our conciliation dates. It is important that we send the employer a strong message regarding the final offer they have tabled, which contains concessions, and their failure to address your key concerns. The best way to send that message to your employer and show support for your bargaining committee is to cast your ballot. You should have received a ballot in the mail. If you haven’t, please contact the NSGEU at 424-4063 (toll-free 1-877-556-7438) or email inquiry@nsgeu.ca. You can mail in your ballot or come by our office (255 John Savage Avenue, Burnside) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also visit our Vote Van. The deadline to vote is next Friday (February 21st).
If you have any questions about the bargaining process or next steps, please contact the NSGEU or a member of your bargaining committee.
