NSGEU Local 66 (RRSS) votes strongly in favour o­­­f strike action to back bargaining demands

Halifax – Members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union Local 66, Regional Residential Services Society, have delivered a very strong show of support to their bargaining committee, voting 88 per cent in favour of strike action, if necessary, to back their demands.

“This should send a loud and clear message to the employer that their proposed concessions are unacceptable to these workers,” said NSGEU President Joan Jessome. “Ten years ago, this local made NSGEU history by going off the job for 77 days on strike. These workers are not afraid to stand up for what is right, and what is fair.”

The local’s bargaining committee and employer have started the conciliation process, and are scheduled for a second day of conciliation today. Their last contract expired on March 31, 2012.

The bargaining committee’s goal is to achieve a fair collective agreement without a disruption of service.
