NSGEU Local 97, CDHA Nurses, Apply for Conciliation

Halifax – After meeting at the bargaining table for eight days, the bargaining committee representing Local 97 Registered Nurses at Capital District Health Authority (CDHA) and their employer have reached an impasse.

The union has now applied to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education for Conciliation services in hopes that an agreement can be reached without resorting to strike action.

“There are some key issues on the table that have not been addressed by the employer: issues relating to scheduling and patient safety,” says NSGEU President Joan Jessome. “The employer is also suggesting some serious clawbacks in their ‘Final Settlement Offer.’ What they have presented is simply unacceptable.”

There are approximately 2,600 Registered Nurses from Local 97 who work throughout the CDHA.
