Public Education Support Staff Day May 6: The Heart of Our Schools

A Message from NSGEU President Sandra Mullen on Public Education Support Staff

At no time in our province’s history have our public schools had a greater role to play in our communities. The world has become a confusing and overwhelming place but our public schools continue to be welcoming environments where children can learn, grow and feel supported in who they are.

Providing these supportive, inclusive and diverse spaces is not possible without the wonderful work of our public school support members. Our members work with our youngest learners in pre-primary, support administration in our school offices, work in school libraries, provide assistive technology supports, and offer individualized programming through APSEA.

Without your commitment and dedication our schools would look much different than they do today.

Today, we recognize the critical work YOU do to support students and their families in our schools.

Today we encourage all NSGEU members, parents and individuals to take a moment and offer thanks and appreciation for our school support members. Their work is fundamental to making sure students get the education they deserve, in a safe and welcoming environment.

On behalf of all NSGEU members we offer you much thanks and support and a continued commitment to advocate for fair wage, a safe workplace, and the resources to do your job to the best of your ability.

On this day, we say “Thank you.”
