Tampon Tuesday- March 23-30
Tampon Tuesday was started in 2009 in London, Ontario, through a partnership with United Way
and the local labour movement. It started as a one-day event that focused on alleviating period
poverty where attendees donated menstrual products instead of paying a ticket price.
Tampon Tuesday has since grown to include several United Ways across the country. In 2019,
United Way Halifax and NSGEU launched Tampon Tuesday locally. We collected over 51,000
menstrual products from workplaces and individual donors all over HRM. Products were delivered
to 15 local charities and were made available for women and transgender individuals in need.
United Way Halifax, in partnership with NSGEU, Halifax Public Libraries and Events East, are
happy to re-launch Tampon Tuesday this year on March 23, 2021.
