Tentative Agreement Reached for Civil Service

Halifax – A tentative agreement was reached between the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union and the Public Service Commission for NSGEU members of the Nova Scotia Civil Service on July 9.

“We are pleased the bargaining committee was able to reach an agreement they felt they could recommend to the membership,” says Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government & Employees Union (NSGEU). “The bargaining committee and negotiators have worked hard on behalf of the membership.”

The tentative agreement will now go to the membership for a mail-in vote. The union expects to count the vote on July 29.

The union will not be releasing any details until the membership has received copies of the tentative agreement which are currently being mailed out.

The current agreement had expired on March 31, 2012.

There are approximately 8000 NSGEU members in the civil service who will be covered by a new collective agreement.

Members who work in the civil service include: administrative professionals, forest technicians, geologists, child-protection workers, food inspectors, fisheries technicians, accountants, planners, clerks, architects, youth workers, tourism workers, archives and museum staff, correctional officers, fisheries and agricultural technicians, vehicle-compliance officers, and many more.
