NSGEU Local 79, Support Staff at Saint Mary’s University, Reject Employers Offer and Ask Conciliator to File His Report

Halifax – Members of NSGEU Local 79, support staff at Saint Mary’s University, have voted 80 percent in favour of rejecting the employer’s offer and the union has asked the conciliator to file his report.

“The members of Local 79 are saying loud and clear that they need a fair offer from the employer,” says Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union. “These women and men provide valuable support services at the University and are not going to accept a less than fair offer.”

The conciliator’s report will be filed on Monday triggering the 14-day countdown to when the local can legally strike. This is 12:01am March 5.

There are 178 members in the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical, and library services for Saint Mary’s University.
