NSGEU Local 88, Support Staff at St.F.X. University, Vote to Strike

Halifax – Members of NSGEU Local 88, support staff at St. F.X. University, have voted 90 per cent in favour of a strike to back up their bargaining demands during conciliation.

Conciliation dates have been scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2013.

“The members of Local 88 have given their Bargaining Committee a strong mandate as they enter the conciliation process with the employer,” says Joan Jessome, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union. “We expect that conciliation will be a very intense forty-eight hour period of time where there will be a great deal of pressure to reach a fair agreement that the membership will accept.”

Job classifications and wages remain two of the most significant outstanding issues to be resolved.

There are approximately 140 members of the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical, and library services for St. F.X.
