Media Advisory: Legislation an Unjustifiable Infringement on Freedom of Association
The NSGEU continues to review the legislation being introduced by the Liberal government this evening, and has concluded that it breaches the constitutional rights of unionized health care workers in Nova Scotia.
“This is an unjustifiable infringement in the union and its members’ rights to freedom of association,” says President Joan Jessome.
“It’s an infringement on their right to form and join a trade union of their choosing, and to have that union bargain collectively on their behalf. It’s one of the worst pieces of labour legislation we’ve ever seen in Canada, and is a direct attack on the NSGEU. We intend to respond accordingly.”
