This time government is targeting Universities!

Rally on Monday, April 27 at 4pm at the Provincial Legislature

Bill 100 was introduced by the Liberal government on Wed., April 22 and promoted as a Bill designed to make universities more accountable. The Bill called “An Act Respecting Accountability and Sustainability of Universities” continues this government’s attack on working people – this time university workers.

Section 8 of Bill 100 gives unprecedented powers to the Universities if they determine they have a “significant operating deficit” and enter in on a “revitalization process”. Once they enter this process, the University gets broad, sweeping powers with respect to workers’ rights. It can forbid the signing of any collective agreement, ban strikes, and take away the ability of unionized employees to start or continue any grievance that relates in whole or in part to the development of the revitalization plan or process.

Law Amendments Hearing on Monday or Tuesday

We also need people to sign up to speak against the Bill at Law Amendments Committee hearing. We expect this will be on Monday, April 27 but we are not sure of the time at this point. Please call as SOON AS POSSIBLE (today!) to add your name to the speakers list. This is your right as a citizen of Nova Scotia and is open to anyone who would like to comment on the legislation.
