Civil Service Bargaining Update – Conciliation Dates Scheduled

Dear members,

As you are aware, bargaining reached an impasse in mid-December after the employer tabled wage increases that fell far below what was deemed acceptable by your bargaining unit, and the employer attempted to remove long-standing job security language from your collective agreement.

As a result, the union wrote to the Minister of Labour requesting the assistance of a Conciliation Officer to attempt to reach a deal. We have now confirmed January 23rd and 30th as dates for Conciliation, and will update you of any progress made at the table on those dates.

Within the Civil Service, conciliation is an option available to the employer and the union when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may request that the Minister of Labour appoint a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.
