to prevent the privatization of

Nova Scotia’s registries:

Registry of Motor Vehicles; Registry of Joint Stocks; Land Registry

On March 12, the Minister responsible for Access Nova Scotia, Mark Furey, said in a CBC report, the government is in discussions regarding the privatization of three registries: the Registry of Joint Stocks; the Land Registry; and the Registry of Motor Vehicles.  The statement by the Minister on the potential privatization of a revenue generating registry should concern us all.

NSGEU is proud of the public services our members provide who work for these registries. Please join us on Thursday to protest government’s proposed privatization plan!

Research has shown that when a public service is privatized, the quality of the service is at risk as well as the cost to the public increases.

There is potential risk to the confidentiality of records when information is shared with a private company that is not accountable to the public. Registry services are also interlinked with other government departments like Justice.

As well, privatization can mean the loss of decent jobs which would have a devastating impact on Nova Scotia communities.

Come out during your lunch hour and show your opposition to the sell-off of our pubic services.
