Local 53 – Halifax Regional Centre for Education Wage Harmonization Process Update

As you are aware, during the last round of bargaining the Employer and Union agreed to enter into a wage harmonization process for support staff working within your Centre for Education. The process will align classifications to the highest classification rate in the Province.

The Union, Province and Halifax Regional Centre most recently met on June 25,2024 where we discussed information provided by the Province around classification duties, responsibilities and rates. The Parties will continue to share and review information through the summer months in order to complete the harmonization process as quickly as possible.

A number of classifications have been agreed to, and we are waiting for a signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) from the Province. Once we receive the MOA and wage scales, we will communicate the outcome to date with the membership.

Please note that the Employer has advised that it will take approximately 8 to 10 weeks to implement the adjustments and process retroactive payments.
