Halifax Common Threads Education Symposium, May 24, 2017

The Tema Conter Memorial Trust is a charity dedicated to the recognition and treatment of Critical Incidence Stress (CIS) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the psychological support of first and front line support personnel.

They are holding an Halifax Common Threads Education Symposium at the Cunard Centre on May 24, 2017. 

The day will run from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and will be moderated by Dr. Andrew Travers. 

The speakers will include the Honourable Kelly Regan, Minister of Labour; Starr Dobson from the NS Mental Health Foundation; John Garth MacDonald a paramedic from Antigonish; Cpl. Jamie MacWhirter a member of the military who served in Afghanistan; Dr. Mark Johnston, a psychiatrist who works with PTSD in the military and RCMP; Constable Corey Walsh, a 20 year veteran and part of both the Mental Health Unit and Training Branch of the Durham Regional Police; and Dr. Matthew Bowes, the Chief Coroner of Nova Scotia. We also have Jason Powell, Dean of Health Sciences at Humber College and former Chair for Nursing Programs speaking on CIS and PTSD among nurses.

There is no charge for the education symposium and NSGEU will pay a voluntary donation of $20 for any member who wishes to attend.
