Happy Nursing Week 2020

May 11th marks the start of Nursing Week. This year especially, we recognize the extraordinary courage our frontline nurses are demonstrating in the face of this global pandemic, and the vital role they play in our healthcare system. This situation has only served to highlight the dedication and sacrifice nurses make on a regular basis for their patients. Despite the threat of COVID-19, our members continue to provide Nova Scotians with the best care and comfort. For this, we thank you.

2020 is the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife,” as declared by the World Health Organization in honour of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The theme for 2020 Nursing Week is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead — Nursing the World to Health,” which is particularly fitting, given current world events.

Each year the NSGEU’s Nurses’ Council has a budget to celebrate Nursing’ Week. This year, the Council purchased tokens of appreciation to distribute at worksites throughout the province. However, due to current Infection control and social distancing protocols, we are unable to safely distribute these items right now, and will have to do so later.

Thank you so much for your hard work and sacrifice. Your union and fellow Nova Scotians so appreciate your strength, skill, and leadership during this unprecedented time.

In solidarity,

Kerri Webster-McIsaac, President, NSGEU Local 101

Jason MacLean, President, NSGEU
