Rally in Support of the Halifax Typographical Union: On Strike for a Year!

January 23rd: One Year Later

Monday, January 23rd marks ONE YEAR on strike for Halifax Typographical Union. There will be lunch-hour rallies held province-wide to mark the date… Please join in!

Quality journalism is a fundamental part of our society and democracy. Having 60+ experienced, qualified reporters, photographers and newsroom staff marching in the streets for a year, rather than contributing to our region’s “newspaper of record” is a true shame. We ALL need to show our support for these workers as they stand up to an employer who refuses to negotiate fairly. These workers simply want to maintain what they have, and we can certainly relate to this struggle.

Here are the rally details:

  • Halifax: The Chronicle Herald building, 2717 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax. Gather at 12:15 p.m. for 12:30 p.m. start.
  • Sydney: CBRM City Hall, 320 Esplanade, with hot dogs and hot drinks, starting at 12:30 p.m.
  • Antigonish: Assemble at 12:15 at Chisholm Park, between Post Office and Whidden’s Bridge, with speeches at 12:30, then a march to MLA Randy Delorey’s office, 202-155 Main Street. Pictou County and Port Hawkesbury supporters welcome!
  • Bridgewater: Rally at 12:30 p.m., North Street near Jerry’s Diner.
  • Yarmouth: Rally begins at 12:30 p.m., MLA Zack Churchill’s office, 396 Main St.
  • Wolfville: Rally begins at 12:30 p.m., Wolfville Post Office, 407 Main St.
